It’s hard to believe it is the end of the summer, and the 50th Annual Smoky Mountain Folk Festival will soon be here! Held August 30th and 31st at Lake Junaluska, this festival is a great way to experience the traditional music of the North Carolina Mountains and reconnect to art and culture.
We’re proud that our county and local music have the distinction of being included in the Blue Ridge Music Trails of North Carolina! Along with the rest of Western North Carolina, our area is internationally known for it’s music traditions and some musicians from this area are acknowledged as shaping many forms of American music.
It’s easy to take for granted what is readily available to you – Pickin’ in the Park on Fridays in Canton during the summer, The Stompin Grounds in Maggie Valley, Raymond Fairchild at Maggie Valley Opry House during high season, Mountain Street Dances in downtown Waynesville, and various artists appearing on weekends at places like Frog Level Brewing Co., and the Boojum Brewing Company Taproom.
Rich in history, rich in culture – that’s our home. Proud to live here and time to start kickin’ up those heels!
