Early Memories of Windover, A Boarding House at the Gateway to the Smokies

Holidays are a great time for memories.  Memories of the joys of our childhood, bittersweet memories of  those no longer with us, and a time of renewal and the excitement of memories to come.
We often thought of what memories our home, The Windover Inn Bed and Breakfast, must hold of those that came before us . . .  especially the original owners, the Howells.  What was it like in our neighborhood in 1910 when they first built the home and there was nothing else here?  Who were the tourists that found lodging at Windover when they came to visit the Smoky Mountains and the Blue Ridge Parkway and what would it be like to operate a tourist home in 1911?
When the grandchildren of the Howells visited us in October, some of those memories came alive for us.  Carey and Harden were kind enough to share old family pictures, letters, newclippings and precious memories with us. From these and other sources, we put together (actually our granddaughter, Emily did most of the work!) a short ‘movie’ which we think gives a feeling of what it was like here at “Windover” in those times.
If you have 4 minutes to spare, we’d like to share those memories with you. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did putting it together.
