A Day on the Blue Ridge Parkway

Last week in between our innkeeping duties, we took a ride along the Blue Ridge Parkway. We needed to run some errands in Asheville, so we decided to travel part way there via the Blue Ridge Parkway. It didn’t appear to be a great day for vista viewing, or so we thought, as the day started with a steady drizzle. But short periods of the sun peeking through the grey haze gave us some hope! Only a 10 minute drive from the inn, the Blue Ridge Parkway is easily accessible for us and our guests. Quite a perk for living in a lovely little town ringed by 6,000 foot mountains! As expected, grey clouds and drizzle greeted us as we entered the Parkway, but as we ascended toward the “Highest Point” just a few miles from our entrance point at Big Balsam, the clouds lifted like a giant veil revealing a vista of teeming colors and textures below. And what views!! Even though some of the ‘best’ color had passed, there was still plenty for our eyes to behold.

The beautiful colors of fall were especially dramatic this year, and even today there is still significant color to be viewed in and around Waynesvlle. Come and see for yourselves!
